The Palestinian protesters were met with deadly force from Israeli security forces on the Gaza Israel border in the first day of a six week long protest where Palestinian protesters are marking what they call their right of return to their towns and villages from which they were forced out by the Israelis in the 1948 Palestine war when hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were forced to leave their2/22
homes having their land taken to be declared as part of a new nation Israel the end of the six week protest will mark the 70th anniversary of this event and of Israel being recognized as a nation It will also coincide with the US Embassy being moved to Jerusalem and the US Recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital a move by the Trump administration which has been very controversial3/22
and has drawn harsh criticism from Palestinian authorities American administration to choose the date of the Palestinian catastrophe the Nakba to move the Embassy and to take this move in this expeditious fashion reflects total insensitivities to what goes on in this region which reiterates which which refers our position that the US can no longer be part of the peace process The US administration has become really a4/22
part of the problem and not part of the solution and we condemn this move and this provocative date they chose with the strongest possible term The first day of the protest turned deadly is at least 15 Palestinians lost their lives as Israeli forces open fire on some of the protesters injuring over 1000 IDF forces claim the protesters were attempting to breach the border and open the5/22
floodgate for a mass entry of people into Israel That's when Israel says their security forces targeted the protesters The protesters were targeted with live ammunition snipers rubber bullets and drones that deployed tear gas The UN Security Council held a meeting asking for an investigation into the violence An estimated 30,000 protesters were in attendance for this first day of the protest which has set up five locations6/22
near the Gaza Israel border Israel has stated they will hold Hamas responsible for any violence stating the protests are a dangerous provocation and that Israel would target what they call militant groups inside Gaza if the violence along the border continues Today is the second day of the six-week protest and so far it has remained peaceful after yesterday's violence In which both sides blame each other although7/22
