my name is Juli and I will be talking to you about did attitude towards gender and how it affects us so first of all what is gender as we can see even in the deck even in the dictionary the definition of gender revolves around society and culture and that's because society does have a big role in how we and the future generation will perceive gender and
that's where Disney comes in Disney's main audience are the younger generation who will grow into forming the future of our society so Disney meets gender in two main aspects the body image of the characters and the plot of the movie so let's address the first one body image recently a lot of people have been critiquing the body image of Disney princesses and saying that they have
very unrealistic features well as we can see there's a big difference between an average healthy woman's body and a Disney princesses body there's a difference in the waistline in the limbs in the eyes everything is very unrealistic about the Disney princess so those little girls were watching Disney movies now won't grow into being strong confident woman they will grow into having very low self esteem because
they won't be looking like a Disney princess the second aspect is the plot the usual plot of Disney movies revolves around a certain pattern in which the female is very fragile and is saved somehow by a strong masculine men also the woman often uses her physical appearance to get a certain goal and sometimes her beauty is what eventually save Sir let's take for example the little
mermaid Ariel who changed to dress who'd made drastic changes in her appearance and in her life overall just so she can marry the prince she also didn't mind losing her ability to speak just so she can marry the man of her dreams at age sixteen and this doesn't only occur in older Disney movies let's address the movie frozen which is known for having a more feminist
vibe to it but have you noticed that when the main character Elsa goes through some sort of transformation and becomes a strong woman hurt so you're also goes through a transformation it becomes much more revealing and amplifies her feminine features this presents to the viewer that first of all marriage is above all and that it doesn't matter what age are at also it presents that it's
okay for a woman to be weak and dependent on a man if there is a rare case where a woman is independence that she must fit right into society's ideal of beauty we're supporting this type of content we're supporting the continuation and progression all of society's strict idea of beauty and gender norms but Disney has made some changes in the latest movie mono we can see
that the main character has far more realistic it features than the usual Disney princess as we can see compared to the little mermaid she has far more realistic waistline her legs are thicker her skin color is darker in her hair looks much more realistic plus in the plot of the movie there is a big emphasis on the power of friendship and not the power of romance
so what do we do with all that information first of all we can keep raising awareness of the subject second of all we can stop supporting Disney's negative content and start supporting their new positive content or provide the younger generation with other content sites outside of Disney which is usually more educational this may take some more effort from us but I can guarantee you that it's
