doctor well last year parent and I just want to offer a huge by then run in to buy those claims just minutes before I'm sending it is receiving hall and helps me Lybrand good but head in my stomach that I still have an Italian supercar contacting my professor in response to pick me up in the next like ten minutes I'm very type a person who's a
very well yeah cynicism in the really strange for me to do but I mean we run into a problem solving mode I open my purse found the couple heroes walk over to the nearest phone booth and punched and the ten digits rainn and she picked up thankfully %HESITATION but you couldn't hear me in the eye and say but after a few moments she sighed time fifteen
minutes please wait for me outside so here's I really well as a really great for about what I'm a contingency plan whipped I stopped outside thirty in California to remove small time I can't then day I am calibrate okay so home as well as the tire Brittany I'm kind of a model pop yeah so that's kind of where I'm at in the huge numbers or as
well we got there I I got to really know ask questions from everyone that I met rose who all year and it will be doing in Capri okay the template lives thinking as well so that we home for fifteen years I don't like to repeat the motion and it was I don't know when and into a becomes muscle memory so who knows my muscle memory answer
so I'm a first generation Indian American I recently graduated from Stanford University and women biology and I'm here to study gender based violence in cloud well on a Fulbright scholarship okay so my favorite starship routine as I research project for nine months well I got to kind of research web Hubbell topic is really interesting to me and when I was putting my phone you're one of
the issues that I care greatly about less gender based violence and I wanted to let out gender based violence in Calabria out from a systems perspective okay so I wasn't sure if the mix methods analysis is both qualitative and quantitative themselves I'm I'm interviews focus groups with a really wide range of people from staff of anti violence centers in the region I've found is in the
center psychologist mailers and academicians back at the university and its nothing to mention all and hope that it goes in depth enough but also with the brown amp met at this region where dot on this issue really is lacking but I got there I got to come back and sit within the first two weeks I realized really quickly not for the first time in my twenty
two years I really have no one watching Marilyn to be accountable to you know them well in public school until you know throughout high spirits you're living with my parents you know you better split apart your teachers you come back home you report your parents and immune Clarence and repeat your peers who remains your professors are submitting assignments that there's always someone in society that's looking
at you and kind of seeing what your options are and what the consequences are right but this time on this I scholarship I hadn't realized that there is room watching me so who am I really whom I when nobody is watching okay so here's my first answer for that I realized I well I am still hate one thing that's been consistent in my life is that
I am a lingua file I met robin and languages so imagine seven year old me I bring this broom and a suburb of California I'm interest group I mean the English and reading analysis I'm playing with my friends in English I come back home and the parents are speaking in a map that shows the mother title I of state back in India voices speaking Hymne hinges
on the television in the background annnnd I'm taking a lot of Spanish so here I am in Wisconsin makes of languages annnnd the idea and also the action and taking a ransom different Tyler zero defense advanced open places and being able to communicate with people and just across borders he needs of people that you know I would have been able to communicate with the pair and
then because gender based violence best and a skill that has been in a row to my research because I'm able to converse with people on a very intimate level and their trust and you know doing their narratives either from a research and work for the betterment of this on this issue because I don't speak the language as I said Italian by of college for a couple
of years but I realize really quickly one thousand copies that could even this language into practice there is much higher than I expected especially fan but it's just been in the movie Johnny and something that I'm really grateful for an especially to understand and learn with language to a whole nother level this event has been about it's been about you know giving me the power to
make the most out of these nine months and the way that I want to so when no one's watching me I got involved in the community college in teaching English I'm rather than going to you know protest events like in the city and the thing that really shaped my my experience that have shaped my research now I don't want to imply partner violence right intimate partner
violence vitamins to Italy rides around and progress yeah once a day thirty five percent of women in Italy in sixteen to seven years and have experienced as a bad reception violence in their lifetime okay thirty one point five percent that means in this room a little over three out of ten women brought in this age gap I probably experienced there's been sexual violence that lifetime that
is a really distressing number to me and something that should not even be the case but I think I'm gonna do prayer when the times were asked what is the cause we the finances and the economy apparently plays a role according to Titans the thirty nine percent so I respected passed out on its hot in the towns that media causes violence okay so many just keep
that in mind as they continue to write talk diving keeping the kibosh specifically on America's mind Anne Bremer studies that's been done on this issue I in the past so my set is kind of a first of its kind that I am in the study done in twenty twelve by the foundation of ethics in Colombia seven percent of perpetrators were found to be current or former
partners so what do you think about that this violence is not random this violence is not happening you know just like why not Armistead in Houston at the bird will story on them and then use this room this violence is happening in your homes by people in the community that people under social surpass this happening behind closed doors there's a huge issue that we need to
have a break the silence out so I understand that we sent a step into the ring and the students here therapy in the points okay support one and internal and external dysfunction them anti violence center system so you know what I can think back to that map that had their good Harry to corroborate that east to triumph anti violence enters and establish a fairly to trial
because some of them are not considered legitimate centers by others but I would say bond with the ballpark and the eternal youth and I'm centers are having many issues and inconsistencies because funding is a problem they're having a problem retaining staff they're having a problem you know how I mean cleanness that they would need to paint all the resources for support person I was the violence
that comes about it consistent manner because they're locking funding but yeah dysfunction it even more interesting I mean it's it's run centers in the region and I can't categorize them into three different ones mandate which is you know feminist I really am but peering in the seventies that establish centers that have been around for you know decades I'm just I'm just a religiously motivated and then
there are centers that much new and have popped up in the last couple of years but they can be centers don't really talk to each other this idea of my methodology is the correct one so by corroboree like an act I'm not really an issue for the entire system as a whole because without it impression without that consistency in connection I'm what I'm doing better as
survivors are not having the support that they will should be this played by them is really interesting and I are the premedical student back at home so high it was a man premature rise in my wet it was not a priority for survivors when talking with survivors when talking to staff found there's anyone interview I'm the priorities for survivors of violence band job security I've security
for my children economic independence and that's kind of but the physical consequences the mental health consequences of violence %HESITATION I contemplate this year's time insurance dental issues I have some time dramatic stress disorder depression even things that are you know found the researcher consistently has been consequence of the violence and the amount that the lifetime but these issues are not being addressed their not being addressed
by survivors they're not being addressed by the system I am pretty tragic there's community pressure not to report and not seek help so this means this means that the survivor was coming out of it extremely traumatic I'm user environment already feeling a lot of shame a lot of uncertainty when they go to their nearest social circle well that's their family or their friends I'm even if
it's a policeman where I live here the complete story told by these people are bad they should repair for that to maintain high them homeostasis no keep your issues behind closed I was well maintained years we're on your side of the family and that's the most important thing and that's where I tried it and that's something that we as a community can really change they asked
all my stakeholders had a run in the next steps but we do to make sure that Genevieve islands intimate partner violence is not an issue in this region beside across the brand preventative education so if there's anything preventative education you Ben no education in schools let's talk I can you know that's what they can spend when they are really yagna six years or seven years there's
been a consistent manner about there is no indication that this respect but is hypersexuality their actions that we are not you know I'm in society minute things that are really not and how do you recognize these no problematic behaviors that's extremely important and that is the literature Heinemann backstopped building the Max better generation but I would say that those media insurer a summer that we can
act on right now yeah I'm in a couple weeks ago removed on Italian TV in praying despite repeatedly telling them to stop okay I'm pretty sure some of you may think I'm when I was in the steaming shower and she was backed by a dancer on stage and the audience was clapping the judges were not being and later on when she denounced it with us that
handsome Jack you should drop it off and that's problematic because members of society that Stephen violence I'm such popular platforms me say nothing about it we do nothing about it we become desensitized to violence and then I had to apply to it the generations to come up I mean this is an issue that weekend has no comment of the time people there well I think we
can do something about in a band together with your friends band together with their family if you see something that's going wrong on TV on a chair watching a video on YouTube required it do something about it say something about it that I wanted to just pass you by because that's what perpetuates this culture that a lot of times I have been behind conspirators the fineness
