everybody could threaten here for boiling frog post dot com and you are currently watching the preview clip for the latest BFP roundtable so on this episode I was joined by BFP contributors James Corbett and Christoph chairman for a wide ranging discussion on the evolution of isis and the seemingly imminent collapse of al Qaeda both as an organization and as a brand no we begin this episode2/12
by discussing some recent articles that have come out in the past few weeks and months up chronicling the sort of a decline of al Qaeda %HESITATION and the rise of ISIS in its place so we took a look at the recent nasties I met article which discussed the our defense intelligence agency memo that was recently released I threw for a request which chronicled on how the3/12
Pentagon was intimately involved in fostering isis in Syria on later we also I take a look at some recent articles that have come out %HESITATION in the guardian of all places quoting quite liberally from to al Qaeda insiders who are now trying to portray themselves as the moderate voices within the jihadi movement so we are gonna take a look at this we analyze all of this4/12
and and see were wary %HESITATION it'll it's going in regards to isis as an organization as a power force in the the global war on terror NW round out the %HESITATION conversation by looking at how the Taliban has been responding to the rise of ISIS and the multiple defections that it is seen well %HESITATION I mean I I sort of viewed I did these articles and5/12
just what's been going on lately especially the sort of this idea of moderate voices both within al Qaeda and because of this we talked about in the Taliban as well %HESITATION again the Taliban considers ISIS too extreme %HESITATION you know this is a pretty extreme group for all intensive purposes %HESITATION I mean they just what the other day I mean attack parliament %HESITATION you know I6/12
mean they obvious I don't think we need to really explain how the Taliban is extreme in any of its methods %HESITATION but yet now we see this group that's emerging with an incredible amount of power a seemingly endless supply of money and arms and fighters %HESITATION they're taking more and more not only from the outside but also from the Taliban %HESITATION and they are you know7/12
bringing in a new sort of jihadi that is even more extreme again and more radical and more sort of like a tunnel vision you know I mean there's there's some you just mention that you're saying isis does have more of a political structure in the sense that they want to rule whatever certain areas of land but on another level almost see them as well less of8/12
a political agenda in that lake you know al Qaeda would at least particularly %HESITATION some sort they would have something about say Palestine or Israel you know they would have something to say on it you know so you know intellectually speaking I mean you would not you know if you agree with that but it's always weary or bin laden they were able to articulate a particular9/12
idea about see western imperialism I mean with isis I see them as just basically like kill kill kill you know there doesn't have to be a rhyme or reason behind I mean they they just supposedly band of the playing of backgammon in Mosul up for Ramadan I mean that's that's idiotic even for a you know CIA terror group so I mean my my sort of take10/12
away from a lot of this and where I will been sort of going in the direction of is that this really is about ISIS are is really about rehabilitating some of our old enemies and perhaps making them seem are not only more tolerable but more necessary alright we'll of course there is a whole lot more to this episode a lot more analysis and insight from me11/12
