increases blood flow to the brain and makes you smarter so we're gonna do is give you some so we have you drink it and then purchaser some tests to see how you do but were universities or kinda broke so you need to pay for your so right so they deducted from their meal plan the five Bucks or whatever it is given us so we let it
soak in and then they take the test no group true this is our control group no so we that in televote so we they just brought him and said we're gonna give you this test and see how you do right so they have a means of comparison group three the chief so be group Sam spiel with the so we the given the so we Thomas gonna
make you smarter and all that but they say we got a great deal on so we got some discount so before you see here so please only eighty cents and then a test see how to get now who do you think that the best of one two or three let's find out turns out that compared to the no so my group control group the full so

shows the power believes the placebo effect right you see things like this it also shows another interesting driver of humanity and it puts forth a hypothesis if you will and I would submit to you that the human brain is vastly overrated crap that is really not the finely tuned beautiful machine that we sometimes think of it is full of flaws and problems and difficulties and as
is evidenced by this and the statistics on how we're doing this we're not always making the right choice insults talk about what gets in the way of making those choices to making the choices that we often know would be the right choice to make and talk about how we can get to making those Bristol let's talk about were results come from where or results come from

try different behavior now you do have to change the behavior but more importantly than what we do we've got to get into why we do it why do you choose to behave as you choose let's talk about where they come from its three main drivers of behavior the first is called the robot we'll talk about each of these in greater detail but the robot is basically
unconscious programing your memory and all those kinds of things so when you do things well thinking about a walking talking about that consciously think if we are the robots in charge if you will we also have a thing called the motor right when your motives in charge it's when you're driven by your emotions and emotions drive different decision making urges desires wants fears drives different kinds
of decisions than the robot might do or that our third driver which is to think the often under used or misused part of our brains that has reasoning and and foresight be the basis of our choices let's do an example how these three played together and then I will double the print each of them okay for example let's say exercise let's say you get home %HESITATION
four five six o'clock whatever and you're contemplating exercise what happens is you begin to have a conversation in your head of these three different drivers mail have different roles to play in they all have different desires energies and things that they do let's talk about how the come together so you start to consider exercise and it turns out that the motor is the primary driver not
all that surprising at this point right so the motor contemplates exercise room and it goes into the memory Mississippi robot what we think of exercise more about says well you hate crying whining maybe some bleeding not something you like right see Morris is you why would we do that thinker why on earth would be exercising a thinker says well turns out were fat and we have
this high school reunion coming up and let me give you an a picture of what it's gonna be like to walk into that high score you know right now me Mota says EDU I don't want that thinker here's the deal figure out a way that we can like going into that high school reunion without having to exercise now and so the thinking party bring goes to
work and says well you know it's five six o'clock at night it's dark out you know there's a lot of traffic on the road it wouldn't be safe to go walk around and that kind of situation it's a health considerations what we need to do is get up tomorrow an hour before work and then exercise then it'll be quiet right we get a great start on
our Dale feel wonderful him or specific rate plan what's on TV next morning the armoire was often our early marta goes well heck no think you get the working just as well we can exercise a lunch right anybody able to relate to this dialogue and your head alright we do this around spending money around eating %HESITATION around scheduling we do our work related every part of
our life we have this constant rolling dialogue conversation going on and for the most part were unaware unconscious up so let's become conscious of it and learn the three players involved first we have the robot with decent visual aid I do my own graphics here's the robot that's not very real body so to make it look moral body William a square head and some little arm
swing to the robot dance right so there's our friend the robot with the robot is an information filter given example of this in a minute it also assigns meaning to events nothing means anything until we decide what it means and it also stores are memories beliefs values are all programmed and stored in a robot also performed learned behavior brushing few things like that you know think
about robots in charge let's talk about the motor visual aid for the motor %HESITATION are we're never happy murder today in our motors can have a bad hair day so here's the motor le the motors got a couple things it does it's really concerned only with the present so when we're in an emotional state when I thinking future we're just thinking what will make me feel
better right now the motor also sees only what the robot thinker showing that's crucially important understand let's do a visual aid represent here's what most people think happens we see the world site some taste touch smell through our senses and we think that we take the senses in an emotional responded them and that's not in reality what we do what we do in reality is our
senses go through our robot and the robot interprets filters assigns meaning to and then puts them up on the screen for the motor to seek so our motion response is not based on the events around us our motion responses based on our unconscious robotic programming of events around let's do an example let's say every time my whole life I ran across somebody wearing a green tee
shirt they came up punch in the nose not saying that it's happened but hypothetically speaking if that happened and someone walks in right now wearing a green tea sure what would I do Ron save yourselves freckles my robot would see that person and put an image up on the screen you're going to punch in the face and my I would have an emotional response that you
would see me have that response look at the same person your robot will put a different image on the screen and you be confused with them out of a job that's just Bobby's good god and to me I would look at you and think you're crazy wire to running can't you see the green pitcher right and so what happens is we each have a very different
martial experience of life those emotions drive a stronger than anything and most people are almost entirely unaware of where their emotions come from let alone what to do about we've got to learn how to master the screen let's start finish up the story here couple of things the motor does the more unhappy it is the more it will drive sort of feeling good we don't mind
waiting right %HESITATION a lot of for the prom Americans infographic Haitian right which would presume the answer is delayed gratification twitch I would think good luck I don't think anybody's gonna delaying gratification I think what happens is there are some people who are gratified now so they're willing to wait for different gratification later but if I don't feel good right now I'm gonna grab the food
on the spin the money in to do whatever I need to do to feel better as quick as they can so when the mortars unhappy it's harder to manage right after we feel easy it is to wait also how it feels shapes what it sees the motor will ignore contradictory evidence and fabricate supporting evidence for example let's say you work with someone that doesn't like you
hypothetically speaking of sure it's not possible but if they didn't like you and then you do a great job at something where they going to do in their head they're gonna have a conversation and they gonna make up excuses are going to ignore that great thing you didn't say all they just got lucky in a pro to credit for someone else's work you do something else
creating a sale any moron could on that little star fabricating evidence the probably embezzling because if we feel something emotionally we tend to wanna prove we're just coming out of election season now and trust me the people run elections know how to pull your emotional change that's what they do people are driven by motions let's finish a story out will do cut more examples here %HESITATION
