tell your story scenes that calm organized by students headaches youth and as did see so I was in government class the other day and repose but the question how can we fix the state a political polarization that is currently crippling our country's ability to solve its most serious problems on my god why are you making us think why are you making us think in school that
doesn't make any sense like sitting on a be on the test in which case it wasn't on a test and then just like that where ended rather indifferent to what is a very pressing issue does any of this sound familiar because it's something that bothers me it's something that I'm a little concerned by you see I'm a high school senior and in the fall I'll be
going will be going to college and soon after that well the participants in the real world when problems like the ones coach trust in government government class are going to be problems are in our hands so let's go back to is happening in class that day why did that question a question typically thought of as thought provoking was met with indifference and very little thought is
it the fault of teachers is it the falter millennials who are just lazy I think that the answer is a little bit more complex I believe at the current conventions surrounding education today narrow assist down into a very small definition of what it means to be successful typically what education is associated wife is rich memorization and conforming intellectually and jumping through hoops but what if education
should I say learning but something different what if learning minutes creatively solving problems take issues with passion and purpose making opportunities for yourself in a world where what you know that is far less than what you can do with what you know if only if only there is a way we can bring out those qualities in our students project based learning it is defined as a
teaching method which students gain knowledge and skills I am working on an extended for an extended period time to respond to an authentic and engaging and complex issue when I say projects I don't mean I don't mean scribbling together up poster in thirty minutes in the third turning in at the end of class to get fluff points I mean no one wants to do that now
I mean projects like applying your knowledge to something that you truly believing and then having a concrete body of work and what you can present your talents and abilities in a more complex and nuanced way and just ask scores remember what I said earlier about political polarization possibly tearing apart a country well later today are gonna be hearing some talks discussing empathy and love and considering
new perspectives and situations we wouldn't otherwise expect all projects with possible solutions to wear real world problems made I things just like me and this idea extends far beyond type talks it could apply to filmmaking and novel writing and user interface design and nonprofit organizations it's skills like the ability to innovate and to take that and to have the guts to think outside the box and
is really going to help us when confronting issues that are political environmental or economic and so on I don't believe in education I believe in learning and there really is a difference between those two things for learning for education comes from the top down creating a system and learning comes from the bottom up and people's curiosity thank you
